View Full Version : Scanner Not Found

I have an OpticPro 9630P Scanner that I have used On Win95/98/98SE since
1997. I have just installed XP Home and it cannot find my scanner.
I have a HP Deskjet connected via USB. I also have a HP LaserJet 6L. The
scanner used to be daisy-chained to the LaserJet, but no longer. I have
removed the LaserJet and have it connected to a second PC. That leaves the
scanner connected to my PC by itself. The cable runs from the printer port
to the scanner directly. Do I have to put a dummy cap on the port designed
to run from the scanner to the printer?

If not, why won't XP recognize my scanner. I have installed and uninstalled
a couple of times now to no avail.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Terry

Err maybe because it's six years old? One assumes you've been to Plustek's
site and looked to see if they still support it (highly unlikely). Parallel
port scanners are stone-age technology and I very much doubt it's supported.
In fact, I can tell you it isn't (because I've looked). There is no driver
(and no, you cannot use the 98 driver, not even in compatiblility mode).

You have no choice but to purchase a new scanner. They're not that expensive
these days.

Many thanks for your response. Although I could have done without the
smart-ass attitude. Not all of us have the money to buy new toys every 6
months. If they continue to work (as mine did) and give good reults (as mine
did) why abandone them? Once I am convinced I have a compatibility issue, I
will consider replacing it.

What's 'smart-arse' about telling someone their 6-year-old scanner won't
work under XP? If you don't believe me, I suggest you check out Plustek's
site for yourself (www.plustek.com). It may work, but my answer has nothing
to do with the hardware, but the driver required to run it. I have a
20-year-old daisy-wheel dot matrix upstairs. Works great with WordPerfect v1
for DOS v1, maybe I can lug it down to the study and hook it up to my Athlon
3000+? After all it's still giving me good results after 20 years. See how
ludicrous that is? The hardware may be working fine, but if the driver
doesn't exist, then all you have is a door stop. Maybe you can give it to a
charity that accepts old hardware for sending to a 3rd-World country? At
least it would be put to good use. Just don't bank on ever having it work
under XP.

If you're that desperate to hang on to it, you could always dual boot with
98.

Greetings --

FYI, your scanner is 6 years old. In terms of computer technology
progress, that's the equivalent of 3 generations.
