I have a Nikon Coolpix 990 Digital Camera which has
worked perfectly well with XP for 18 months.

I suddenly cannot access images on the cameras card and I
get a signal which says, "cannot connect to card or card
reader"

I have asked Nikon for help and they recommend re-loading
XP from the OEM pre-instalation disc ,which I have done
to no avail.

They also suggested that my auto play function might have
been lost within XP.I am totally lost !!

I know that the usb connection is sound as the Nikon icon
appears whenever I connect the camera

I would be really grateful for anyones'assistance as my
camera is renered useless at the moment

I would try the following:

With the camera connected, if it appears in Scanners and Cameras control
panel, delete it.

From Add/Remove Programs, delete everything that says Nikon.

Reboot, reinstall the camera from the original installation materials.

You did not reformat the mem card in XP? If so, the card probably wants
Fat, not Fat32 or NTFS.
