Lockup after startup

I have a Athlon 2000 with XP Pro which locks up either during POST or soon
after. It usually only happens when the machine is doing a cold start as in
the morning. Only a low level reboot can do anything, all else locks up. I
may have reached past the welcome screen etc and be in any other program and
all just freezes!! It usually takes around 3 to 5 reboots to finally run
with out any further trouble at all.

Any ideas Please ?
