Error message "could not load alert resource!"

I recently got a new computer with Window XP
professional. I installed Photoshop 6.0 in the computer.

Everytime I use Photoshop, I can't close an open file,
thus cannot exit the program. Every time I try to close a
file, I keep getting the error message "could not load
alert resource". The only way of getting out of Photoshop
is using end task in Windows Task Manager.

Please help!
