View Full Version : Messenger very slow to start which slows Outlook start

I had this problem long ago and cured it by downloading a later version of
Messenger. But now I've got it again. At bootup Messenger takes a long time
to load, delaying Outlook till it does. It's not life or death but it's
annoying.

Things that might have precipitated this? I switched to DSL but turn off the
computer when I go to bed because otherwise the hard drive noise and various
lights bother us. DSL turns on in the morning instantly OK. Installed Zone
Alarm Pro but uninstalled it in favor of Windows P firewall because Zone
Alarm confused me - couldn't tell what was OK to let in and what not. Went
to selective startup to get rid of Quicken Billminder and a shortcut to a
DOS program that doesn't run on DSL anyway. I did this because there was a
morning traffic jam at startup - now I realize it's Messenger that seems to
be the slow one.

Any ideas as to what's causing Messenger to load so slowly? Fix? TIA

Greetings Catherine,

Do you mean Outlook Express? If so, close Outlook Express if its running, then download and
run this .reg file:
