I installed Win XP home on a new HD. I had win 98SE on the
old drive in the computer. When I hook up the drives as
winxp master win 98se slave it boots to win98. if I go
cable select and hook cables winxp master win 98 slave it
boots to win98. PS I want to transfer files between them.
Any ideas?

thats odd, have you tried setting the XP drive as master and the 98 drive as
master or slave on the second IDE channel? then once done copying files from
98 to XP just format your drive and your problems should cease

Hi,
Firstly check the BIOS, is it the IDE channels(both) set
to auto detect?
Secondly check the jumper setting on hard drives, are
they set to cable select?
Thirdly check the flat ribbon cable, is it a 40 pin 80
conductor type? Have you connect the connectors correctly?
The far end connector is for master and the middle
connector is for slave.
