Greetings:
Resized my HD (came as 1 60G partition), and now it
won't boot. OK, in goes the CD for install - now the
error message: "However, this disk does not contain a
Windows XP-compatable partition." What do I need to do to
get it going again?

Explain what you did to resize.

Redo the processor but make sure you backup your data

Resized by using Partition Magic 8.0. I verified that
there was space (defrag & view under xp - no files past
the half way point). Told P.M. to execute the task &
rebooted - and that's when I'd get stuck on the logo
screen (blue with two orange lines & an xp logo) for 10
min or more. That's when I decided to try to repair, then
reinstall the OS.

Redo the processor? I don't follow you. The processor
works fine, it's getting a bootable hard drive that is the
problem. What did you mean? (data is *always* backed up,
this is the kind of luck I typically have... )8

Hello
What am saying is to make your cdrom the primary boot device
and run throught the loading process again and it will tell what
partitions you have.

Umm, that's what I meant to say. I've done that and what
it says is that I have plenty of partitions, just none of
them are XP compagible, and refuses to install the OS on
them. Any clues on where to go from here?

Do you have a Windows boot disk available so you could FDISK? Have you tried
anything with PM?

Hi Ken
Apologies for jumping into the middle here but if you're OK with losing any
data on the disk have you considered deleting one or all the partitions
during the set-up phase and resizing partitions, reformatting and then
installing... all from the XP CD?
Hope that helps
Pete

My last note should have stated ' have you retried to run Partition Manager
functions'?

The next step (Monday) is to use XP's setup delete/create
partition software. If that doesn't work, then I'll have
to make a floppy to do it from...

That's next on the list. If that doesn't work, then I
will have to make a boot disk & put fdisk on it and do
it the old fashioned way...
