screen resulution

When I log onto my my settings from the winxp home screen,
my desktop comes up in 32-bit color. As the logon
continues, screen goes black the comes back in 8-bit
color. Right click desktop, settings etc, and resulution
will change to 32-bit. I've tried numerous cobinations of
restart, apply w/out restaring etc. but the changes only
last until I tern the computer off. Next time I logon same
thing occurs. This does not effect any of the other users
of tis computer. HELP, what did I screw-up this time?
