Is there a way to extract individual files from the WinXP
cd such as there was in Win98?

There is a command called expand. Goto the command prompt. And type the
following...

expand ADE.HL_ ADE.HLP

You will need to specify the path for the destination file if you reading
from the CD. Expand works on .cab files and the _ files. You need to know
the extention for the _ files

OR

You can use WinZip or WinRAR. Open WinZIP/RAR and open the file from within
WinZIP/RAR.

If you load up MSConfig, on the General tab there is an Expand File
option which allow you to extract individual files from cab files from
the XP CD.
