Hi! I need some urgent help...
I had win98 in a 30gb HD (as Master IDE) and installed=20
another HD (80gb as Slave IDE). In the 80gb HD I installed=20
Win XP Pro. Whenever I boot my system I can choose between=20
the two operative systems (XP and win98). There are no=20
problems so far. But when I had to remove the 30 gb HD with=20
win98, the computer stopped booting... So the problem is=20
the following: I set the 80gb HD with Win XP as Master IDE,=20
but it doesn't boot, it only says "press any key to reboot"=20
and there's no way I can boot the system from the HD with=20
Win XP. I'd really appreciate some help,
thanks.

Your Win98 AND XP boot loader files were on the 30Gb drive your removed!
The norm in a dual boot config is for XP to use the Primary drive as the
boot drive with a pointer to the proper drive/partition for the XP system.

Changing the boot.ini may allow you to boot into XP. However, I've seen
better success using the repair console and the "fixboot" utility.

YMMV,

Thanks for the help, I tell you what I did:
I created a boot floppy disk with these files: "ntldr",=20
"ntdetect.com", y "boot.ini".
In the boot.ini I wrote:
[boot loader]
timeout=3D1
default=3Dmulti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WIND OWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=3D"Microsoft=20
Windows XP Professional" /fastdetectand=20
Now I can start up the PC with this disk and without the=20
30gb disk connected. But how can I do to boot the PC=20
without the floppy disk? I cannot find the boot.ini file in=20
the HD with XP to modify it as you tell me.
I tried to install the XP, but it tells me there's no valid=20
system partition and that it cannot continue.
I set the 30gb HD again and executed the XP Recovery=20
Console, and the FIXMBR and FIXBOOT commands to D:\ (80gb=20
HD), but it doesn't boot from the HD and still tells me=20
there's no valid system partition, so I can re-install XP.
Any idea what to do?
PS: Although I modified the PC bios/setup, there's no way I=20
can boot XP from CD-Rom.
