How do I set up WinXP to use two printers from one
computer? I just recently purchased an inkjet color
photo printer, but I want to continue using my HP Deskjet
for text printing. The HP is a parallel printer and the
photo printer is USB 2.0. Both are installed but I can
only print to the photo printer. I can select the HP
in "Print" and Print Manager says it's printing, but
nothing happens. Can I set XP up to print to two
printers? If so, how?

Thanks

I have two printers in my setup, an older HP5L (parallel port) and a HP 970
(USB). From the beginning - they just worked.

So YES, you can have two printers configured, and operational!

I have an HP LaserJet 6L and a HP DeskJet 812C on XP Home and the software
just found both of them when it was installed. The LaserJet is networked to
a 2nd PC across the room and works like a charm!
Good luck!

You should be able to use either - and set one or other as Default.
Take a look in Start - Printers and faxes to ensure that both have icons
there, then r-click Properties na d Print a test page. If it fails to
print then there is something wrong with the installation of drivers -
best remove the device and start over. Installing USB printers can be
tricky: *usually* the way is to have the driver CD ready in the drive;
plug the printer in 'hot' having already booted the system and switched
the printer on, and when New hardware comes up, firmly point it to the
correct folder on the disk. But check the instructions that came with
it and follow them, exactly.

It also may have trouble working through a hub: try the next time around
on a direct USB port on the motherboard, not used for it before
