I have a Dell computer with XP. The system started to run
very slow and then basically stopped working. After
some "playing" around I received a message that said I
was missing a file or the file is corrupt; the
message/file was "windows root.\system32\ntoskrnl.exe"
I was able to restore the system to an earlier date and
the system is working, but very slow. Any suggestions as
to what I should do to speed the system up and ensure the
corrupt file is OK?

Thanks,

Frank

have you tried using msconfig? type that word without quesion mark at the
run box (start ---run) then go to the startup tab examine each one and
determin wheter or not you need that paticular application to run each time
your system starts up if not merley uncheck the box and click apply once
done. you can also try a defrag if you havent already
