pb with keyboard in Spanish

The accents "tildes" in Spanish are incorrect when I
define a second language for my keyboard (they go
downwards instead of upwards from left to right). I
haven't been able to figure out how to solve this pb. I
have always used my keyboard interchangeably between
English and Spanish with Windows 98 but now I can't do it
with windows XP home edition.
Help please.

I could not get that straight either; would appreciate any input. For the
time being I am relying on old shortcuts:
á = Alt+160
é = Alt+130
í = Alt+161
ó = Alt+162
ú = Alt+163
ñ = Alt+164
Ñ = Alt+165
