I've installed XP on an old PIII 500 for a friend.
Everything is working fine, except for the audio device, an
avance logic express pci with als4000 chipset.
The device manager say the device can't find enough free
resources and is therefore disabled.
However, i cannot change the resources for this device, nor
for other devices. Not even after a reinstall with bios
settings apm off and PnP OS disabled or after pressing F5
during install where it say standard pc instead of acpi
compliant.
Does anyone have any idea what else there is to try to get
the thing to work?

The most simple answer is to get a new sound card compatible with XP. You
can get a decent card for just a few bucks.

Try moving the card to another slot.
