I meant to upgrade win 95 and accidentally installed XP by
itself, so now I have both os's on my computer. I need to
remove xp but both installations are on the same
partition. How would I remove xp without disabling the
installation of win 95?
Thanks,
Doug

I don't think that there is an upgrade path from W95 to XP - you HAVE to
do a clean install. So what you have done is the only way.

You're right, 95 is not valid media for an upgrade, but it is for a =
install (little quirk by MS). What probably happened was, he loaded the =
XP disk, then chose "New Installation", which it then would have seen =
the 95, and proceeded to install XP on the same partition as 95. I think =
a format is his only solution.

Yep, once you have installed two different OS's on the
same partition (so they would probably be sharing
the "Program Files" and "Windows" folders. Subsequently,
cutting out the parts that are Windows XP may become ...
finicky! Also, NTLDR would have been loaded and the boot
order modified, which isn't a biggy but compounded by the
increase in files in the system folders ... could lead to
a lot of redundant files taking up unnecessary space
which if you remove without checking could render the
Windows 95 install absolutely, positively useless.
In a word or two ... dang nabbit! Format & rebuild.
Frankie.
