install atapi

how can i install atapi device to a ide connector when i
take out exsisting cd-rw and replace it with dvd-rw it
does not work//////// cd-rw-ide dvd-rw-atapi
please help

Did you set the master/slave jumper on the new drive the same as the old?
or do you mean it shows up in my computer but its not working?
