i cant get windows xp home edition to let me use my
external usb drive.
xp knows it has a usb enclosure, with a hard drive,
attached to it. when plugged in xp pops up the found new
hardware ballon. then it says it is ready to use. but, i
cant find the drive. i assume it would be under "my computer".
or is every one laughing right now because i am looking in
the wrong place ?

Right click on My Computer and select Manage.
On the following screen, select Disk Management. The drive should appear on
the right hand side of the screen. You can parition it, format it and
assign it a drive letter from here.

disk management only shows my internal drive.
i also just realized i didnt make it clear this is an ide
internal drive connected to an external ide to usb enclosure.
i dont understand why the drive works as an internal ide
drive and xp sees it as a hard drive connected by usb, but
i cant use it.
