Ati card?

If so then open display and click settings/advanced/smartgart

Change it to 8X.

The smartgart utility runs the first time you install the drivers for
an ATI card. Sometimes it gets things wrong when it sets it up. You
can change it to 8X on this tab and it will stick.

Have you checked your BIOS? Is it set for 8x?

Have you checked to see if there is a setting in BIOS for AGP?
