I'm running XP Pro on an Abit NF7S mobo, Athlon XP 3000+
a Pioneer 106 DVD ROM ( as a slave drive on IDE channel
1) and a Ricoh MP7060a CDR/CDRW drive ( as a master drive
on IDE channel 2)and for some reason XP refuses to
recognise the Ricoh as a CDR device. XP recognises it as
a removable hard drive. I have tried uninstalling the cdr
in device manager.Then shutting down the PC and
disconnecting the CDR drive. I then reboot (the removable
disk is gone from My Computer) and shut down again. If I
reconnect the cdr drive and reboot it is recognised
correctly as a cdr drive but if I shutdown and reboot
again, XP is back to its old tricks and recognises the
cdr as a removable hard drive. (What gives here?) Can
somebody point me in the right direction for a fix - the
knowledge base articles I have found don't adress my
partcular problem.
