I used to use AVG7 but have switched to NOD32. The reason to switch was
because I found AVG auto update suddenly stopped working and I could not
repair it. Reinstallation did not work and I suspect the problem was at the
AVG end but they would not respond to my questions.
After installing "Nod" I found my machine performed considerably "better"
especially at start-up. Start-up when AVG installed was slower and often
taskbar icons would not establish unless I logged off and reinstalled.
Further, the first scan of NOD found three "worms" that were not detected by
AVG.
I am not suggesting AVG is a poor AV program (although it may be), simply I
have found Nod32 to be better for me.

Were you using the free version of AVG ?
I've had a few problems over the last few weeks with AVG on one machine. I
have a feeling it may have been a virus, one was detected just before the
problems and it took some messing around to remove. While trying to sort the
problem I had uninstalled the AVG program and didn't notice any real
difference in performance. I'd guess that the worms may have caused the
behaviour, but remember that no program will always pick up 100% of
infections at all times. There will probably be a time when AVG picks up
things your new program doesn't. I found this with AVG and Norton, finding
AVG slightly better.
Bottom line is that so long as you are happy with whatever you use that's
fine, but remember to regularly update the definitions and don't get
complacent- things can change.

It's not a Beta - at one time there was only thr free edition. We've
been using it here for a couple of years, on two Win98 machines and an
XP without any problem. Some people have experienced update problems but
I have to say that that has not been a problem here in the UK where we

I've been using the free edition 6.0 for 2 years or so and like it. We Yanks
download from free.update.cz . also. Maybe the little wire on the Atlantic
seabed got chewed on by mermaids. ;-) Just wondering if it's time to move on
up. Or maybe the automatic download issue plaguing so many may be Grisoft's

That's not the point. If you tout software in a newsgroup, then either post
a link, or don't tout it. It's not the same as the "my Windows won't shut
down" questions.
I did just that - since Nod32 is not free, comparing it or suggesting it as
a replacement for AVG is not logical.

I didn't suggest Nod32 was free and what "logic" has to do with anything

That's not the point. If you tout software in a newsgroup, then either post
a link, or don't tout it. It's not the same as the "my Windows won't shut
down" questions.
I did just that - since Nod32 is not free, comparing it or suggesting it as
a replacement for AVG is not logical.

I didn't suggest Nod32 was free and what "logic" has to do with anything
posted I don't know. I guess I just over estimate your intelligence .

Why? Because you're too crippled to do a simple search yourself and assume
the same goes for the rest of people in here?

What you refer to as a "free" version of AVG Antivirus 7.x is ACTUALLY a
"TRIAL" version. That is, it will stop working after a 30 days or so.
The only FREE version of AVG Antivirus is the FREE VERSION (6.x)

What you refer to as a "free" version of AVG Antivirus 7.x is ACTUALLY a
"TRIAL" version. That is, it will stop working after a 30 days or so.
The only FREE version of AVG Antivirus is the FREE VERSION (6.x)

What you refer to as a "free" version of AVG Antivirus 7.x is ACTUALLY a
"TRIAL" version. That is, it will stop working after a 30 days or so.
The only FREE version of AVG Antivirus is the FREE VERSION (6.x)
