I'm a fairly new computer user and I want to learn how to burn a CD.
Where can I get free music on the internet? Can music from the
internet be sent to my Windows Media Player? I've never done this
before & any help would be greatly appreciated?
Thanks,
BMW

When you download music from the internet, it usually comes in the form of
whats called an mp3. This term mp3 is now computer lingo for a song.
An mp3 is pretty much like a document file. You can open it as a file in
microsoft word or an alternative wordprocessing application whereas an mp3
will open in a music playing application such as windows media player, you
can attach them to emails, move them around your hard drive, use burning
software to copy them to cdrom. All this can be done with any other file
type including mp3's.
If you want to download mp3's from the internet, the best way to do that is
through a peer to peer (p2p) application. Everyone using this application
will upload a list of their songs to a server for other people to search
through. When you want to download a song, you fill out a search query and
within seconds, usually hundreds of results will come back containing
information about who has that file. You can then sift through the results
and when you have found a result you wish to download by looking at its
title, length and artist etc, you can instruct the program to download the
mp3 off that person via the internet.
One good p2p program is kazaa lite (www.kazaalite.com). Kazaa uses the
'fasttrack' network which is now the biggest music sharing network avaliable
on the net but unfourtunatly the kazaa program contains advertisment banners
and extra bundled software which is not welcome on many computers. For this
reason kazaa lite came out which is an add free version of kazaa, and it
works on the fasttrack network.
Music on the fasttrack network is free.
You can download and install this program from the kazaa lite website and
begin to download music.
Next you will want to listen to these songs. You will just need to open your
shared folder (default) or download directory and you will find your music.
There is usually a shortcut placed on your desktop to get to the music.
Simply double click on an mp3 and it will load in your default music player
program (usually windows media player)
To burn the music to cd, you will need a cd burner which looks like a normal
cdrom drive but has the extra function. There will be some software that
comes with your cd burner or it is already installed on your computer.
Usually this software is Nero Burning Rom or Easy CD Creator. Check your
manuals or start menu to check this. When you open these programs you will
need to go to your download / shared folder and select some music to burn to
cd within a wizard. The wizard will give you options on what to burn, and it
will completly automate the process. There is also help documentation
avaliable with your burning software.
I hope this helps
