Hi all,
I'm trying to install an (admittedly old) Modular Technology MM200 PCTV card
so that I can use the webcam that was supplied with it. All goes well and
XP detects the card, but the when I try to install the drivers it says "The
class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device"
and won't let me do it. I've tried new drivers from the Mod Tech website
(http://www.modulartech.com/support/tvsup.htm) and they don't work either
(at least I think they're new. There's no dating to confirm). I'd love to
get it working so if somebody could help I'd be grateful. I'm running:
AMD Athlon 1400 on an Abit KG-7 RAID m/b with 256Mb RAM. Windows XP Home
OEM running in an admin user account with 1* Plextor CDR drive, 1* DVD
drive, 1* 250Mb internal ZIP and 1* 1.44Mb standard floppy.

Hello Chris
Do you know for sure if it is supported by Win XP I think that
is where your problem is and if not your kinda out of luck. Maybe
time to replace that card but keep looking and ask int vendor if
they provide software that will support XP

Hi Alvin,
I'm pretty certain that it's not XP supported as it's about 7 years old. I
suspected that's where the problem might be but wondered if there was a
workaround. I mailed the vendors too to ask their ideas and see what
drivers they have. Other than that, yes it's card replacement time. Not
too major as I could do with a new one but still slightly annoying. Failing
that, if you know how to get two USB cams of the same type (Creative Video
Blaster WebCam) so I can use the Cam Cycle feature of my software, again,
I'd be appreciated as that's all I really want the TV Card fixed for.
Thanks for your prompt reply :)

Hi Alvin,
Just to follow-up on what was said, I mailed the vendor and got the followng
reply:
"I'm sorry to say that Windows 2000 or XP is not supported on any of our TV
cards..
The situation has arisen because of the unique method on our TV card to
digitise the sound and pass it across the PCI bus. Brooktree/Conexant (the
silicon manufacturer and driver writer) elected not to support this mode for
Windows 2000/XP, thus leaving us with no product and customers like yourself
with no solution."
So, there ya have it. Definate no-no. Not a problem, I'll just get a new
card :)
