I've got a 6 month old Gateway 300x series (E-2000) with
a LG GCC-4320B combo drive. WinXp home OS. The purpose of
this computer was to make family photo VCD'S & to back up
my *own* personal DVD collection by making VCD'S &
hopefully (S)VCD'S. Since the factory pre-installed Roxio
EZ CD Creator 5 basic & DirectCD's software programs do
not create VCD'S or (S)VCD'S. I d/l a freeware program
called VCD Easy. Which burned great VCD'S that I was able
to play in my stand alone DVD player. After a reinstall
of WinXP because of an unrelated problem (recommended by
Gateway). My same stand alone DVD player does not
recognize or play the VCD'S anymore. The burned VCD shows
files and plays on the computer just fine, but not on the
stand alone DVD player. I've also since then d/l Nero
burning rom. But having same problem with that burning
software also. Can play on puter but not stand alone.
I've deleted in device manager and let the OS reinstall
everything from the LG GCC-4320B to the IDE secondary
controller. Installed a firmware update from LG on the
drive also. NO LUCK !!! Is it possible that the Gateway
blue Operating System (WinXP) CD that came with the
computer doesn't have something on it that the factory
installed version does? And if so, what then? Gateway
said, "They can't give me any help with 3thd party
software programs". Any suggestions? Really could use the
help here. Thank you, Bob
