Hello, I need some help. I had win98 installed and=20
changed it for XP Pro, but I have just realized that the=20
OS is not detecting the USB ports (2) while with win98=20
they worked fine. My PC is an Athlon 650/256mb/mother=20
Epox.
Thanks.
Mat=EDas.

I had a similar problem ... see my query on same day a couple items down ...
resolved it on my own.

Searched all over web for answer since no one responded. Found this usb site
forum:

http://www.usbman.com/forum/

Seems that XP doesn't like to be upgraded with any USB devices plugged in.
One of mine was; how about you?

While one technician recommended a complicated fix involving reinstallation
with the CD (warnings posted all over the place) ~ Yikes ~ another user said
they'd deleted all of the usb entries in the device manager, unplugged all
devices and restarted windows. Windows had then found and correctly
installed all of the usb ports.

I tried this myself. Removed 3 entries for Intel Universal Host Controller,
1 for USB2 Enhanced Host Controller, and 3 root hubs. Restarted Windows. Got
a blue screen error. Swallowed hard. Restarted the computer. Windows started
normally, and found each of these devices. Turned off the computer. Added
devices to USB cables and turned on. Restarted Windows. Windows found each
of the devices (in my case an APC backup battery and a Toshiba digital
camera).

Bear in mind that I am not a technician. I am a business owner/graphic
designer. I've had dos-based computers since 1989 and know more than the
average bear but less than a Microsoft technician.

Good luck,
