Recently I had an error in WinXP after which I performed
a repair. Now I cannot SMTP or POP messages from the
server using server names like smtp.server.com and
pop.server.com, from Outlook Express. My email provider
gave me an IP address (number) to be used in lieu of
names and it works. My email provider says the problem
is with DNS or firewall settings. I checked firewall
(Zone Alarm and Kerio Personal Firewall) settings and
they are okay. As reagards DNS I verified that the
settings are the same as the last time my email worked
with server names, yet, Outlook express would still not
take server names and works only on IP address. Is some
file corrupted somewhere deep in the WinXP OS?
