Modifying the normal.dot template

I try to change the layout of normal template and close
word down. When i open word again the changes have not
been saved?!

You will get better help in the Word newsgroup. But I believe you will have
to turn on the view for hidden folders so you can search and find out where
the Word Normal template is located. Then you will have to click on that
template to open it. Make your changes there and save. That is what I did to
make my changes permanent.
