messenger service

Hey, can anyone help me with this? I am not computer
literate and when I am on the internet I get continual
pop-ups from Messenger Service which are very
annoying...how can you stop this????

Open messenger,tools,options,prefrences,uncheck the box,allow to run in background,
and,load when windows starts-up.
