Where you place all the Windows on the screen is up to you.
You can have them positioned/sized anywhere and any way you wish.

Right click in empty space in toolbar, lower right corner, and make a
choice.

It sounds like you are opening everything full screen. First of
all, change to windowed; in the upper right hand corner of each
program's screen, click on the middle one of the three icons, the
one which looks like a square. That icon toggles between
full-screen and windowed mode.

Once it's windowed, you can resize and move the application
windows as you ask, or in any other configuration you want. To
resize a window, place the cursor on an edge of the window (it
will turn into a two-headed arrow) then drag that edge outward to
make the window bigger, or inward to make it smaller. To move a
window, click on its title bar and drag it wherever you want.
