I haven't worked with XP O.S. for very long at this
point, but I can inform you that in WIN98 S.E. the
software updates can be accessed off-line by clicking:
START:
PROGRAMS:
ACCESSORIES:
SYSTEM TOOLS:
SYSTEM INFORMATION-scroll down menu-tree folders (on left)
to "Software Environment"; expand the window by clicking
on the "+sign"; and all of your soft-ware up-dates and
the dates that you installed them will be listed here.
To access the installed "Windows" up-dates on-line: Go to
the "Windows Up-date" site; scan for available up-dates;
(so the web-site can identify your computer) and then
click on the "View Installation History" link. All of
your Windows-based up-dates and installation dates will
also be listed here. I have found that so far most of the
programs and applications that I used in 98 S.E. are
basically the same in XP as far as program groups and the
methods of working with-in these groups go...so the above
should apply for XP.
As for installing to a computer that isn't on-line; it
seems that downloading the up-date "APPLICATION" to a
floppy or ZIP-disk from your other computer, and then
loading the up-date information from the disk using your
A:/ Drive (floppy) or ZIP-Drive (if you have one), on to
your off-line computer, then opening the executable file;
(the WHOLE soft-ware up-date download program) would
probably work. This same exe.file knows what file or
folder to install to as well. Hope this helps!
