Hi,

I have a LAN MsHome XP network going thru a normal hub with one of the
boxes connected to a @Home cable modem which allows all the others to
get to the web.

I have just bought a 'Compex' brand Wireless Gateway Kit - SKW811. This
has a Wireless Access Point box with 4 ports and a small USB box for one
computer which in my case will be my laptop.

In case others have this or another thingo like it, I want to know the
following.

1. Can I connect the Access Point box just to the hub so that I can
use the wireless part to access the LAN network on my laptop. This way
the laptop will get to the web and the other boxes via the normal hub
network as it does now.
If so, how do I do this as the manual is very limited and quite
confusing. For me anyway!

2. If I did use it to connect to my @Home cable modem, would I have to
re-establish my IP stuff as at the moment it is a normal connection to a
LAN Card and out thru the hub to the others machines.
I don't want to install it to find I have messed up all my IP stuff and
lose connection to the net.

Any help would be appreciated especially in a 'walk me thru it' way.

Thanks

Rock

I am not familiar with the Compex brand or their kit. Connect the
gateway to one of the ports on your hub, make sure DHCP is NOT enabled if
it has this feature, and anything that connects through it should have
access to the rest of your network and the Internet. I am assuming DHCP is
handled by your @Home cable modem. If not you will need to Enable DHCP on
the wireless gateway, unless you are using static IP addresses. You might
be more satisfied with a wireless PCMCIA card to connect to your wireless
gateway, or a mini PCI wireless card if you have a mini PCI slot. Less
wires to mess with and I have heard a lot of complaints about the USB
wireless products.
