saving files

When I first purchased my computer and saved a picture or
other file to a particular folder, XP would remember and
return to that folder the next time I tried to save
another picture or file. This is no longer true. I seems
to default to another folder, and even if I browse to a
different folder to save the picture or file, XP doesn't
seem to remember that folder location for the next time.
Got any suggestions?
