I have a Dell 4100 computer. It has 2 slots in back for USB connections. I have attached a hub to one of these ports and it works very well.

I'm about to buy a scanner which wants usb 2.0 or better. I presume it will work on USB 1.0 which I have.

Can I buy a USB 2.0 board and install it in the computer without a conflict showing up? I do have a slot available.

The scanner may work on the USB 1.1 but can not be guaranteed.

This Dell machine will support a USB 2.0 card in the machine's PCI slot. The hub that you currently have may not be a USB 2.0 hub. If so you will not get the throughput that USB 2.0 offers. Also make sure that any cables used with the USB 2.0 card are USB 2.0 rated or you may suffer throughput problems.

If you do get a USB 2.0 card be sure to install the USB2.0 drivers which
are on the SP1 disk. :)
