View Full Version : Setting up an Internet Connection in XP

I have XP home edition, and have a broadband connection
set up that is always on, no need for a username or
password. I have my new computer plugged into the router,
and it is connected correctly.

But when I tried to set up a connection, I had problems. I
selected the option that said "Always connected(No user
name or password), and it said it should work.

But when I went on IE, it said I had no connection.

What do I need to do to get my connection working?

Have you set up the router?

My router requires me to power cycle the Cable Modem and router in a
particular order before I can configure the router. Otherwise it won't let
me. Taught me to read the instructions!

I've also had a problem once when I had the connection set upt to use the
ISP "auto configuration script". Turned that off and it worked just fine. I
think the script should just set up the proxy but I did wonder if they were
trying to prevent people sharing the connection by using some kinda trick
with the config script (if that's possible).
