Cannot start XP at all

My girlfriend was messing around with the PC trying to
get an old PC game to work. From the manual
troubleshooter, it said that if the game would not load
at the start, turn the "Hardware Acceleration" down to
NONE and restart. She did this and now the PC will not
boot up at all, so we can't even restore. Could anyone
help please (desperately), even if to say that the PC is
totally and gone and the hard drive will need to be
reconfigured.
