ever since I installed dsl yahoo as my internet service
provider I haven't been able to use windows explorer. I
can open folders on the desktop or in the start window. I
noticed this problem when I wanted to change my desktop
appearance. When I go to the control panel I get the
following error:

Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I've been off the internet for almost 9 months and my
virus protection has expired. I'm thinking perhaps I may
have contacted a virus. Or it could be an issue between
MS and Yahoo DSL.
Things I've tried already are:
System restore to earlier date.
Reinstall Windows XP
Update Windows XP by downloading patches

Haven't tried uninstalling DSL-Yahoo.

Any ideas?

Hi Janet,

This has to do with Yahoo Companion, remove it.
