when i install nvidia nforce2 chipset drivers for my
leadtek K7NCR18D-pro motherboard windows xp home
recognises my hard drive and cd-roms as SCSI devices
which they are not. does anyone know how to fix this so
windows recognises my drives correctly as IDE drives as
this is causing instability problems?

During the install you indicated that you wanted to use the "enhanced" ide
drivers. This is what happens. Install again, and read the pop up boxes
closely. Click NO at the appropriate time.
