5 button intellimouse optical question
this might apply to all MS mouse products.... how come the wheel function
wont work in a window unless I click in the box I want to scroll in? I
turned on the tweakui X-mouse tool but this tool looses focus to the new
window when the mouse is moved off (a pain when writing this msg and I knock
the mouse away.
other mouse products from other vendors have a good wheel function that will
scroll any window regardless of its position.

You have to click in the box you want to scroll in so the mouse knows which
window you want to scroll. Let's say you have 5 open windows and the focus
is the desktop. You hit the scroll wheel. How does the system know which
window to scroll? It's not peculiar to MS mice. My Logitech cordless and
generic mice work the same way. The x-mouse function is working properly.
It's function is to change focus to whatever the mouse is hovering over so,
when your hover leaves the current window so does the focus.

I guess I was spoiled by the A4Tech mouse I used previously. it scrolled
where ever the pointer was with out stealing focus. it was 5 buttons and 2
wheels with more pre-defined user options for each button. problem was that
it wore out after 3 months.

My Intellimouse Explorer scrolls other windows without changing the focus.
In OE typing this reply right now I can move my pointer to OE's main window
and scroll the folder panel or headers panel while I'm typing this.
It won't scroll in a window of a completely different program though unless
I click in it to change focus.
I don't use TweakUI, never have.

eh... I turned x-mouse off and it seems to be working when previously it
didn't... go figure.
