What is the best way and program to use if I am going to upgrade my hard
drive? I have a small 30 GB hd and am planning to buy a 120 GB. I want to
basically keep all of my files and just transfer all the info and files
exactly from the old hd to the new hd. Any suggestions????

Thanks in advance....

You need to make an "image" of your old hard drive and then
transfer the "image" to your new drive. To accomplish this,
you'll need to purchase a third-party program:

Norton Ghost 2003
http://www.symantec.com/sabu/ghost/ghost_personal/

or

PowerQuest Drive Image
http://www.powerquest.com/driveimage/

You may also wish to visit the support website of the manufacturer of =
your
new hard drive and see if they have a free utility program that you can =
use to
accomplish this task. For example, if you have a new Western Digital =
drive,
you can download their free Data Lifeguard Tools which includes =
"drive-to-drive
copy capability" (Ref: http://support.wdc.com/download/).

I'm just getting this done. I upgraded to a 80Gb Western Digital with the
8Mb Cache. I used Data Lifeguard Tools which came with the new WD drive but
it didn't do the drive to drive copy to Win XPs liking. I may be able to
save you some time if you want to try this (at your own risk, of course),
since I've spent many hours troubleshooting this. After you install the new
drive, initialize and format it using the Disk Management Console. After
that you can clone your old drive to it using Casper XP from www.fssdev.com.
Then before you boot up into Win XP again remove (or disconnect) the old
drive and make sure everything is working ok. If you want to reinstall your
old drive as a secondary "slave" drive, I have been told to run fdisk off a
boot disk and remove the partitions on the old drive, but I may also run a
low level format to completely clean it out. I haven't done this part yet
because I am still testing the new drive to ensure everything is working.
So far, so good. Good luck!
