I just added 512Mb memory chip in bay 2...had 512 in bay 1
for a total of 1024Mb or 1 gig. Why is it no faster than
before? It was recognized...I checked that and did at
first seem to be faster until I did a full scan with my
anti-virus (NAV) and now it's not??

At 512 mb Ram, the computer was running as fast as it could, adding more Ram
would not increase the speed, only more available memory.

For all practical purposes, 1GB of RAM is not going to make
your computer run much faster. 512MB of RAM is really all
you need for Windows XP, unless you run memory-intensive
programs.

Very probably 512 MB was all you needed. Adding RAM only speeds things
up if you have programs needing so much memory that they cause extensive
use of the page file to swap data in and out
