Press the F8 key as soon as you turn the computer on, this
will get the boot menu. You can select the "safe mode" to
boot and try troubleshooting the problem while in safe mode.
Safe mode only loads the minimal drivers and such required
to run Windows.

Since it is a new computer, I presume you bought it from a
store new, I would take it back and have them fix it or
replace it.

If you have a MS XP CD you could use it to repair the
installation. Here are instructions for that operation.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q315341&ID=KB;EN-US;Q315341

Or if eMachine supplies a restore CD, you should use it,
following the directions in your manual. They may have
place restore files in a hidden partition on the hard drive,
your manual should have instructions for restoring the
computer to factory condition.

If you have installed any other programs on this computer
(or hardware) including printers, cameras, or scanners,
these could be the problem, particularly if the install was
not done properly.

Post back with more details about your problem and somebody
will be able to help with better answers.
