Perhaps every month or so the CPU usage on my computer
goes up to 100% and stays there until I reboot. This
first started happening when I installed Direct X v9. I
restored my system via System Restore previous to
installing Direct X v9, and the problem stopped for a
short time. Now, there doesn't seem to be any one thing
that I can associate with this problem. And it is a
problem, expecially when the CPU temperature reaches 53
degrees centigrade and my computer automatically reboots.

Check your system for viruses, spyware (most probable), and trojan horses
(second most probable). You also might want to address your heat problem.
By the way, your processor is always running 100%, regardless of what it is
doing and cannot be causing your heat problem. If you check your processes
in Task Manager, you will see System Idle Process. This is the process that
is running when you system isn't doing anything else. It's a process just
like any other process on your system.

I think you missed the point. His CPU is running at
100%. He's not talking about the processes. Yes the
processes do TOTAL 100%, but when the computer is at idle
(even when the idle process is at 95-99%), the CPU should
only be showing about 3-7%usage - NOT - 100%....
