Upgrade CPU and Motherboard

I would like to upgrade my CPU and Motherboard. I am
running XP Pro. I am wondering what the best practive is
for doing this. I am thinking that if I just swap out
the CPU and Motherboard, and bring up the upgraded system
XP Pro is probably not going to be to happy.

You will need to do a repair installation. Boot from the XP CD, press Enter
at the first screen, on the next press F8, then on the next press R. After
the repair install you may have to reload Updates, including SP1, but your
data should all be intact.
