I'm looking for info on how viruses show up on computers. Do all viruses
show up as a process on Task Manager or can they be hidden from that even?
I'm a Visual Basic programmer and am developing some software for some
customers to be used for virus detection purposes. It's not big-time
software. Just looking to find out how viruses work really.

No and Yes.

Most of the antivirus sites have sections devoted to the workings of
viruses, trojans, worms, etc. You may also want to browse some of the
newsgroups devoted to security and virus issues. There are a few on this
server, for example there's microsoft.public.security.virus
