My old computer ran 98SE with the XP home edition upgrade
but the motherboard packed up, so I stripped it down and
sold the parts as the new one I bought allready had XP
Home installed. The old hard drive was formatted so I
would like to know if anyone can tell me how to
deregister the XP upgrade so it can be sold on as my
cousin wants it .

Your cousin can install the upgrade and, if needed, can tell microsoft the
situation. It can be installed on an other computer if it has been removed
from yours.

It is legal to sell the software to your cousin as long as it is not now
installed on any computer. Be sure to include the Product Key. If it has
been more than 120 days since you activated it, it will install on his
computer automatically online. If less than 120 days he may have to make a
phone activation, which is quick and painless. Since the software is an
upgrade he will have to own a qualifying product, such as Win 98, 98SE, or
ME.
