HUGE problem!
I have a second HDD (120Gb) for storage of music and=20
movie files. There is no OS on this drive - just data.
Recently, there seemed to be a problem with an=20
intermittent power supply to the HDD - to cut a long=20
story short, it now seems to have lost some=20
partitioning/boot info and although Disk Manager can see=20
the drive (which unfortunately I formatted originally as=20
a dynamic disk - bad move!) its "re-activate" facility=20
fails.
I've tried a data recovery program - it finds the files=20
okay, but if I try to move them (to my C drive, which has=20
plenty of space) I find that sound files are "jumbled,"=20
with all the bits of the song in the wrong places! (I=20
presume this is because of some fragmenting.)
What I need to do (I think!) is to repair the MBR in some=20
way that doesn't lose all the carefully-collected data on=20
the drive.
I've tried Partition Magic - no joy, as it can't "see"=20
any partitions on the drive, but, like Windows it can=20
actually see that there is a drive there, but is unable=20
to access it.
I even tried booting from the WinXP CD to see if there is=20
any utility in there that'll help... no joy - it simply=20
wants to reformat the drive, which would, of course,=20
erase all the data.
Is there any way to make this drive readable again?
a reply here, or better still by e-mail to=20
would lead to my unending gratitude...=20
I once approached a data recovery organisation about=20
reviving a drive or at least recovering data from it, and=20
was told it would cost around =A31000. *gulp*
I don't have =A31000 but would happily donate a sum of =A320=20
to your nominated charity if I can get a fix for this=20
problem!
Thanks,
Phil
