View Full Version : Sysprep...I'm Confused

Hello,

I'm busy creating a compressed image of my O.S,complete
with all the security patches etc. Can't stand the stress
of venturing online anymore to download them eachtime I
do a clean re-install..

I have used Acronis True Image to create said image which
fits comfortably on a 700 mb disc. However,I know
absolutely nothing about computing.I got dreadfully
muddled-up after reading about "sysprep" on the Acronis
website.I understand, this is used by networks wishing
to "clone" a pre-configured set up in order that each
machine doesn't have to be individually configured.

However,this is what I don't understand.Acronis mentions
that each system has somesort of internal serial number
unique to the hardware configuration.Since buying my
computer,I have installed a larger harddrive,a CD Re-
Writer,DVD Rom,TFT Monitor..

The set-up has changed quite substantially!
Therefore,should I re-do my little project,only run
sysprep beforehand,to make allowances for any future
hardware changes I am likely to implement?

Please don't direct me to the Microsoft information
site,because I cannot understand a word of it.I'm only a
novice!

Would appreciate any advice.Basically,do I run sysprep,or
not?I have no idea! Thanks ever so.

Sadie
