After upgrading from WinMe to WinXP Home, I cannot print from LPT1 to my Laserjet 4P from Word or Notepad. Unplugged cable from home pc and plugged into my WinXP Pro, works fine. Don't see any bent pins. Compared drivers on laptop and home PC; same. Selecting 'Configure Port' brings up Timeout Value of 90 seconds; leaving that screen gives me 'Port Error' message. Any guidance on how to troubleshoot this would be appreciated.

Update: I found a workaround by going into Device Manager/Ports and changing the connection for LPT from LPT1 to LPT2. The system announced that it had found 'new' hardware (the printer) and created a new printer icon (so that I now had two; one pointing to LPT1 and one pointing to LPT2). I used the 'new' printer, and was able to print. I assume that this means that when the system announced a 'port error', it was referring to some kind of software construct, not the actual physical port. I don't know how to fix that original problem, but I'm happy -- I can print again.
