Can anyone tell me what sysreg is used for? It appeared
in Zone Alarm and I told ZA not to allow access. Now
whenever I turn my PC on it says there is an error
because sysreg cannot run.

Is it a necessary program? Everything seems to be normal
other than the error that appears during logon.

I was afraid it was some virus or something but after
searching for the file saw that it was in a windows
directory.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

A search for SYSREG on google yeilded the following

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/dyn/11576.html

You should use an updated virus scanner with the latest definitions.

You should also notify all your mail contacts that you were infected and
that shey should scan their own machines with the latest version.....

Thanks, but the filename is SysReg (no extension but is
an application). It resides in the windows/system32
directory. I think it is a Microsoft file but don't know.

Do you have your folder options set to hide extensions for known
file types? That is not a good idea because many worms and virus
files have double extensions which depend upon you not seeing the
real extension. For example, "deleteall.txt.exe" would show up as
"deleteall.txt" on a computer which hides the extension. Cmd.Exe
will execute files without executable extensions if the file has an
executable header. The GUI will try to open them with the
associated application.

My computer does not have such a file.
