View Full Version : Dot matrix won't print more than 25 labels

I have a Panasonic KX-P1150 dot matrix printer. It is
physically attached to a Win98 machine and it is shared.
The problem is on an XP machine. I created the special
form "label 1X4" and it prints fine most of the time.
Occasionally it will just print garbage and I have to shut
it down and start over. Consistently it will not print
more than 25 labels in one job. It appears that the
spooler is only accepting 25. On the WinXP machine it is
set to 'print directly to printer' in order to free up the
machine for continued use. Then the job goes to the
spooler of the 98 machine. There is no XP specific driver
for this printer.
I'm not sure where to start to fix this. Any ideas?
Thanx
Chris

Dot matrix printers have a finite life, buy a nice quiet,
fast printer that will run on XP.
BTW, how did you create the labels? What program are you
using?

If the printer is running from the parallel port, check the port in the
Systems Bios and WinXP. If the port is Bidirectional, disable
bidirectional port and use the standard "centronics" parallel port. Some
older Dot Matrix printers cannot support bidirectional parallel port too
well and usually just stop printing without giving an error. Also an HP
external JetDirect 300x creates the same problem and there is no fix.

That was my first thought - that the printer was old and
flaky - so we replaced it with a new one. My clients have
thousands of these labels preprinted (in rolls) - so, they
kept a backup printer - Panasonic KX-P1150 still in the
box - just for this occurrence. Didn't help. I created
the labels in MS Access.
