how to UNinstall windows xp as the original o/s in the
computer and then install windows 98se as the new
operating system? Please be aware that I need to
UNINSTALL Windows xp home edition and that there was no
Windows 98 o/s in this computer before.

Thank you for you help.

A note... this will probably void any warranty on your system if you do
this. Also, you may or may not be able to find proper drivers for your
device(s). It would probably be better to correct any XP issues you have
rather than "downgrade" the system!

Having said that... If you boot with a Win98se boot disk, you can run
"fdisk" choose "y" for the large disk support, and then check the current
partition. If it is DOS/FAT32 then you will need to do nothing. If it is a
"non-DOS" partition (probably NTFS) then you will need to delete the
partition.

If you need to delete the partion, you will need to create a new partition
and set it as active.

Once you have a DOS/FAT32 partition, restart the computer again with the
boot disk and do a format c: of course make sure the 98se boot disk has
both fdisk and format utilities included on the disk! Also you will need to
have support for your CD ROM drives. A Win 98se recovery disk will fit the
bill nicely.

Once the format is complete, switch to your CD ROM (D:, E:, whatever) and
start win98 installation by typing "setup" at the command prompt.

Good Luck, make sure you read the first few lines carefully!
